The ability to write newspaper-style feature articles reliably is an expert skill – and one that many writers can’t claim.
But if you need 1,500+ words on a newsworthy topic, punctuated by interviews with interesting third parties, I can provide that.
It’s all thanks to my background as a feature writer for national media.
My feature writing experience
Before I turned to commercial copy, I was primarily a features journalist – and one of my biggest clients was my former employer, the Guardian.
Over the years I’ve written features on countless consumer and business topics, including travel, finance, careers, the arts, sustainability, and more.
Careers feature writing
I regularly contributed to Rise, which was then the Guardian’s careers supplement for graduates. For these articles, I tried to write with a light touch.
One of my favourites was a health piece advising ex-students how to get out of bed in the morning. Another asked graduates people to reflect on the idea of making a 10-year career plan.
Tech and business
B2B technology is one of my copywriting specialisms, but I’ve also focused on the business of tech.
For example, in 2005 I wrote a piece called Looking back on the crash, an article that remembered the peak of the dotcom boom.
I’ve also interviewed well known business authors such as Tom Peters and Dan Heath. See my case study portfolio for more info.
European travel writing
I’ve written travel features for the Guardian website about Greece, plus a number of travel articles for the Telegraph, both advertorial and sponsored editorial.
See my travel page for more.
Environment and sustainability
I contributed articles to the house magazine of Forum for the Future, on topics from renewable power to decarbonisation in music and film.
